This foundation aims to increase awareness about osteosarcoma, and bring hope to the community through outreach and research support. The Jay Shields Osteosarcoma Foundation is a Florida Not-for-Profit Corporation founded in 2006. The organization is awaiting approval for status as a 501(C)3 non-profit organization from the Internal Revenue Service.

Jay's Story
This organization was started to honor the courageous fight against osteosarcoma that is being fought by Jay Shields, his family, and the thousands of others like him.

It began with a pain in his shoulder. Jay was an active 15-year-old who was involved in sports like football, so a sore shoulder was not unexpected. When the normal course of rest and ice did not alleviate the discomfort, he had a scan to check to see if he had "pulled something." Unfortunately the scan revealed a tumor. After additional tests, the diagnosis of osteosarcoma was made, and the battle began.
